About Aboocha

Every bottle starts with a mother.

Aboocha brews small-batch kombucha and jun tea in Singapore. Live cultures, less sugar, more flavour — raised slowly on a mother culture we have kept alive for years.

A kombucha mother culture SCOBY

Where the name comes from

“A-boo” is Hokkien for mother. Every kombucha is born from one.

Pronounced AH-BOO-CHA. A-boo, or a-bu, means mother in Hokkien — and kombucha is, after all, born from a mother culture of bacteria and yeast that it relies on to propagate and multiply. The name carries a mother's love and sacrifice into a functional drink full of goodness.

We set out to make healthy kombucha affordable, brewed in a safe, hygienic and compliant space to Singapore's food-safety standards. The flavours came from home and the market — sour plum, blue pea, lemongrass, yuzu, osmanthus — not the ones kombucha usually comes in, but the ones we grew up on.

Today we brew in a licensed, SFA-compliant brewery, still in small batches, still on the same mother. Every bottle is unpasteurised, vegan, gluten- and dairy-free, rated Nutri-Grade A–B with just 1–3% sugar, and delivered cold within days of bottling. Halal certification is in progress.
